Just curious, can Fire Dragons jump in burning coal pits and lava unharmed, just like some of those MLP:FiM episodes involving dragons? I have a suspicion that someone might treat that coal pit in the sauna like a kid’s ball pit, or even a yarn ball pit in a certain DMFA webcomic. >.>
Judging by their reaction to hot lava back during the volcano storyline, it looks like it might not be the most pleasant experience for them. Hot doesn’t equal fire, after all. Commander Sear’s conversation with Lady Red was originally envisioned as taking place in a sauna but since saunas always feature wood, putting Fire Dragons in such a flammable environment didn’t make much sense and so a pit of hot coals was used instead. ^__^
I find interesting how Red is so certain the Lightning Dragons are still loyal to the throne after they got humiliated and exiled years ago, and then humiliated again after the Obsidian Egg debacle. Even if Sombrana wasn’t a factor here, Elektra’s flock would certainly benefit from Oscura falling.
Think Sombrana might tip the balance?
The Nightmare Sombrana image is pretty intense looking! We’ve seen light dragons conjure focused UV light before to give a fire dragon sunburn, but the pose in this picture makes me wonder if any light dragons have mastered an actual ‘cutting laser’ strong enough to make them a killing threat to other dragon types. Because that nightmare image looks like she’s charging SOMETHING nasty!
Well, way back in the story, didn’t Briella use something that looked similar to that to blast her way out of the Calera and didn’t she mention that Sombrana taught her that move?
I had to dig for this one! Briella’s “Surge” on page 290, seems a little less focused or cutting so much as just a raw magic pulse in all directions – which does indeed bring down the ceiling! It achieved some kind of concussive force at the least, but as a kind of ‘limit break’ it also drained her heavily. That said, if Sombrana has a more advanced version she can use repeatedly and focus at specific targets instead of “hope it hits everyone near me”… she really could be a terrifying contender in her own right. I wonder how much of a battalion – tiger OR dragon – she could singlehandedly take out as a show of force?
Ooh, you were so close! The move I was referring to was on page 288, two pages prior to that. Be sure to have a look!
Ahh I see! She never actually got to fire it, so I conflated that charging with the actual surge that happened two pages later – which still accomplished her goal of making a hole in the ceiling to escape. Definitely confirms Sombrana as a “blasting master” though, and the charging on 288 even looks similar to what’s going on in the Nightmare version on this page! Will be interesting to see when this particular Chekhov’s Gun gets fired, because now this is the second time it’s getting referenced! 😀
I’m wondering if that “Toxic Ideology”, is only toxic to a certain agenda of certain people. Gotta love Politics.
Toxic to those that adhere to it and toxic to those that don’t.
This kind of reminds me of transformers one I knew the writing on the wall is going to happen the empires day,s are numbered like rome
Sombrana sure likes to think big!
Oh my, if it comes out that Sombrana is still alive and has her faction, it could cause a lot more tension internally. The Queen made it clear that internal stability is tenuous at best and I bet supporters left from the old guard will be livid (not to mention anyone that has a grudge against the fire dragons).
Even a grudge against Lady Red herself could be a motivating factor.
Shows the separation of what’s known within the world. The only one with access to the city that knows anything is Blue.
She knows Sombrana is alive and doing fairly well, and with everything she learned from Kilani prior, she’s accumulating a lot of dangerous info.
Hopefully it won’t turn consequential later.
Aww, Blue’s a big sweetheart. How would she ever get tangled up in some nefarious plot?
I know alot of earth dragons will have a grudge with fire light and lightning dragons I was wondering if the water dragons and earth dragon allied with kilani group secretly took there eggs in rookery while the queen is focusing on the air raid against sombrana and after that battle over ohh boy with no earth they are like the architects the whole city will crumble and aged like london bridge quickly
Sorry, I’m late. I just checked in a found the new page. Anyway…
The Sum of All Fears.
Lady Red reprises Sear stepping in and excuses her exhaustion from the previous night. She espouses the excellence of the actions of the flock from the fight the night previous with the little loss for either side. Commander Sear completely consents to the commendation but her mind is mulling over another matter. She inquires if Lady Red can converse covertly. With the pair away from prying eyes and ears, Sear states that there are two troubles she cannot tolerate. The first is the matter of one tiger who announced her immunity and stopped the soon-to-be slaughter. Protocols pertains that such individuals be treated as top class and given the eminent escort. But with a surfeit of surrounding information about the tiger’s identity and the name she abides by means the escort cannot be entertained.
The second matter has Sear fearing Sombrana, a former member of the illustrious Palace Guard, whose followers supplied support to the flight overnight. Sear states that they would be up to no good given their rambunctious reputation. Red remembers the Lightning Dragons and reminds Sear of their foremost fealty to the crown while Sear states the share of loyalty to Sombrana, Red’s predecessor. Sombrana’s legacy is not something she wants to overlook as the ideology she supported still runs through the empire’s veins. Sear overall concern is the monumental meltdown that happened and the wide spreading word of its occurrence. The impropriety made the empire look imperfect and she blatantly believes anyone who hears of it will open the opportunity for them to assault the empire.
Is Sear’s surmise enough to convince Red of the distant possibility of revolt or is the real trouble the tempest that is boiling from within?
Brilliant as always! Sounds like there may be some sleeper cells at work!
